Tooth Whitening
Tooth whitening can be effectively achieved by the application of 10% carbamide
peroxide gel.
A custom made tray is made to fit to your teeth. The gel is placed inside
the tray and applied to your teeth every night or 3 hourly sessions for a ten day period.
The new tooth colour has been shown to be stable for about 2 years.
Tooth whitening will not change the colour of crowns, veneers, or tooth coloured
fillings. You may need to consider replacing any of these restorations that
show when you smile.
It is important to check that the gums and teeth are healthy before commencing
treatment. It is also advisable not to smoke or drink tea, coffee or red wine
during the course of bleaching treatment. Limiting intake of these products after treatment will help maintain tooth colour.
Approximately 15% of people may experience some tooth sensitivity that can
be resolved by the application of desensitising agents.
