Snoring occurs when the soft tissues of the palate and throat vibrate together.
Mandibular Advancement Splints (anti-snoring appliances) are designed to gently posture the jaw foward to increase the space between the soft palate and the back of the throat.
The appliances have a high (90%) success rate. They may take a little while to adapt to wearing and may cause increased salivation for a short time.
The appliances are individually made and fitted over two appointments. A follow up appointment is required to check the appliance.
Two designs are available, fixed and functional.
In some cases breathing stops for a short time
This is called Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA).
OSA can result in fatigue, irregular heart-beat, and other symptoms.
OSA should be assessed by your Doctor or a dedicated Sleep Disorder Clinic.
