Intermediate Fillings

Intermediate fillings are often used by dentists to ensure the best outcomes for your overall care.  The filling material is usually glass ionomer.

An intermediate filling may be provided to:

  • Remove decay and seal the tooth as an emergency.

  • Allow assessment of the remaining tooth tissue to decide the most appropriate way to restore the tooth for the longer term.

  • Allow other more urgent treatment to be completed.

  •  Co-ordinate with other treatment.

  • Allow treatment to be delayed due to personal circumstances.
