A denture is a removable appliance that replaces missing teeth.

A denture may be required in order to improve the appearance of your smile, to aid chewing, or to support the jaw. This can be a temporary measure during a healing period prior to placement of bridges or implants.

Dentures can be made to replace all your teeth or just a few. The acrylic denture teeth can be supported by an acrylic or metal base. Your dentist will advise you on the advantages and disadvantages of different denture designs.

Denture problems

Although dentures will never be as good as healthy natural teeth they can still be a satisfactory and cost effective option. By careful consideration of design and working closely with you and the denture technician it is often possible to achieve a good result.

Dentures that have been satisfactory in the past can often be improved by appropriate adjustment with relining of the fitting surface and replacement of worn teeth.  This can also be a very cost effective option.
