Research into amalgam safety continues and to date no links between amalgam use and disease have been established. It is not considered harmful to health.
The World Health Organisation has recommended amalgam use should continue and, indeed, no government or reputable scientific, medical or dental body anywhere in the world accepts that amalgam is a health hazard.
As dental health is improving, fewer teeth need to be filled and the number of amalgam fillings in the UK is falling.
There are, of course, other sources of mercury, and those of us who enjoy eating fish are taking similar levels of mercury from diet as from fillings.
Amalgam has been used for over 100 years and remains an ideal filling material. No filling material, other than gold, has been proven so reliable.
